It's always an experience when I head home to Pittstown & visit my family - I always seem to pick up some local color or re-experience something and see it in a new light.
This weekend, it was Fox!
I had the great fortune of watching TV with different members of my family over the course of this weekend, and it seemed no matter the time of day, they were watching Fox! I got to listen to opinionated baseball commentators, evening news broadcasts, and the VERY best: Fox & Friends.
So I watched with horror at Fox's attempt to emulate the Today show, and as soon as I opened my sarcastic little pie hole I was told to shut up, because people in my family don't make fun of other people (this would be funnier if you knew my family).
And what did they talk about in the 20 minutes I tried to soak it all in?
Come on - you know this one!
BINGO! Liberal Bias (OOOoooo) (I would also have accepted "spin media")
So - this is my thought. I watch network news (to a point), and I don't EVER hear them talk about right-wing bias. I also listen to REAL liberal media, & they talk about how network media has a Conservative Bias ALL THE TIME. The difference? Liberal media is independently produced and distributed and isn't being pipped directly into every home in America...it has to be sought out.
I think that both sides need to shut up. Mainstream, TRUE mainstream media - the regular networks - are playing for ratings. Fox & the true liberal media have agendas. It's just that Fox has a bigger budget, more resources, and is a tool of the devil.
(That last part would be a joke - for all you literal people out there w/ no sense of gosh-darn humor)

Well, Leney, you should feel fortunate (or is it unlucky) that you didn't get to share with your family last night's O'Reilly Factor (I swear the entertainment factor of the Factor is way underrated among us liberals-this guy's a real hoot!). He had on special guest star Ben Stein, who was pitching a movie (theoretically a documentary, I think) that he will soon be releasing which details the discrimination suffered by those poor souls who espouse (drum roll, please............) yes! that's right! INTELLIGENT DESIGN!!!!!
Come on, Dar, we know there's no devil!
Great to see you posting again. On this topic you should read "What Liberal Media?" by Eric Alterman. I'll try to remember to lend you my copy the next time I see you.
To Tom: Jack & I have debated idea of a negativity toward intelligent design before, but I think going so far as to call it "discrimination" is ridiculous...but perhaps that's a topic for an upcoming post
To Jack: I say devil, you say evil pundit of the right-wing conspiracy...;)
